The Big Idea

Imagine travelling back in time to the year 1985.

You tell students about careers such as:

• app developer,
• social media manager,
• drone operator,
• cybersecurity specialist,
• cloud architect,
• AI researcher.

Many would be confused.

Some of these jobs did not exist.

Others were difficult to imagine.

Yet today they are real careers.

This teaches us an important lesson:

The future often creates opportunities that are difficult to predict.

When technology changes, society changes.

When society changes, new needs emerge.

When new needs emerge, new careers follow.

The Intelligence Economy may create many opportunities that do not yet exist today.

Last week, we explored a fascinating idea:

Many future careers may not exist today.

History shows that whenever major technologies emerge, new opportunities often follow.

A century ago, few people could have imagined:

·         AI researchers.

Yet today these are real careers.

This raises an important question:

If the future cannot be predicted perfectly, how can we prepare for it?

Revisiting The Big Idea

Imagine standing in the year 1900 and trying to predict life today.

You would need to imagine:

That would be extremely difficult.

The future often surprises people.

Not because people are unintelligent.

But because innovation creates possibilities that are difficult to imagine beforehand.

This week you will become a Future Career Designer.

Your mission is to imagine, create, and evaluate a profession that could exist in the year 2045.

By the end of this project, you will better understand how opportunities emerge when technology, human needs, and innovation come together.

Step 1

Choose A Future Challenge

Examples:

·         climate change,

·         healthcare,

·         education,

·         aging populations,

·         transportation,

·         mental wellbeing,

·         food production,

·         digital trust,

·         space exploration.

Select one challenge that interests you.

Step 2

Identify The Human Need

Ask:

What problem needs solving?

Why is this challenge important?

Write down your answers.

Invent A Future Career
